Available Summary:

Nev came out as a trans male at the age of 13. When he was 15 years old, he met Jazmine and started a relationship. Jazmine had a daughter, Naomi, who was five months old when Nev met her and then became her stepdad. Jazmine said: “Naomi definitely took a liking to his chains and jewellery that he wore. She just grew a connection to him right away.” Nev started sharing his story on social media and while he’s received a lot of support, he’s also received judgement. He explained: “I don’t get as much hate for being a teen parent as I do for being a trans parent.” Initially, Nev’s dad, Korey, had reservations about him becoming a dad as a teen but is proud of Nev’s maturity and resilience. The now 18-year-old said: “I feel blessed to be a father".

Jack's Summary:

Nev, who uses he/they pronouns, came out as a trans male at thirteen, after initially identifying as non-binary. He recalls being surprised by the bullying he experienced at school, since his mother was "extremely accepting" and he had assumed that others would act similarly.

Tearing up as he talks about his mother, he says that losing her was hard for many reasons, one reason being that she had intended to help him start gender-affirming testosterone at sixteen. His father, after becoming Nev's sole parent, took a different view, and decided that any medical intervention must wait until Nev has turned eighteen. Nev, for his part, seems quite accepting of this; "It's hard to understand, but I also do understand, to an extent. I love the person I am now... I hope I can start hormones eventually."

The trans man has short, black hair, and is wearing a grey hoodie with a silver necklace and wire-rimmed glasses. The cis woman has long, brown hair, and is wearing a grey shirt and jeans. Their daughter is wearing a patterned shirt and has long, brown hair.

Viewers are then introduced to Jazmine, Nev's girlfriend, and Naomi, Jazmine's daughter. Naomi refers to Nev as "dada" and "daddy". Nev met Jazmine when the pair were fifteen and seventeen respectively, with Nev immediately eager to meet Jazmine's infant daughter and support Jazmine.

Nev reveals that he experiences harassment and hate, with social media harshly criticising his role as a father figure in Naomi's life, to the point that he is judged more for being a trans parent than a teen parent.

"People have asked me why I'm with a trans guy," Jazmine says, "I love this person, and love's going to love, y'know?" Later, she adds, "It's something that I didn't think I would ever find. He's a good father, too."

Korey, Nev's father, explains that he was initially concerned that raising a child would be too much responsibility for Nev, particularly since Nev's relationship with Jazmine began only months after Nev's mother died.

"We were all still grieving, and it was just a lot all at once, for my dad," Nev explains.

Describing Nev's choice to become a parent as "noble", Korey says, "I'm very proud of him... I'm very impressed by how you've been doing this, you've acted a lot older than you have been, you're more mature than normal. Especially since mom passed, you've been a lot more resilient and self-reliant."

The video ends with Nev saying, "My family is basically my safe haven. I feel blessed to be a father."
