- Just Call Me Kade (2001) | Trans Male Documentary
Kade Farlow Collins, an American trans male, is interviewed as a boy and later as a young man, alongside supportive and unsupportive family members. Just Call Me Kade Documentary 2001 United States of America Kade Farlow Collins, an American trans male, is interviewed as a boy and later as a young man, alongside supportive and unsupportive family members. Watch. Available Summary: Kade Farlow Collins is a sixteen year old FTM (female to male transgendered person) residing in Tucson, Arizona. Kade's parents maintain a supportive and nurturing relationship to Kade regarding the many challenges facing their teenage child. However, it hasn't always been easy. As Kade's body began to transform during puberty, Kade became nearly suicidal. Realizing that the issue was more complex than Kade being a tomboy or a lesbian, the family searched for information. Through a local support group and the internet, Kade's mother found books and other resources pertaining to transgenderism. Kade and his family agreed to have their lives documented in order to bring awareness to the subject. -YouTube. Jack's Summary: In this documentary, the family of Kade are extensively interviewed, as is Kade himself. Kade's mother and grandmother refer to Kade with she/her pronouns and also by his deadname, but have very different perspectives on the legitimacy of his identity. Kade's grandmother is very concerned and distressed by her grandson's journey, whereas Kade's mother is very supportive despite using the incorrect name and pronouns. Kade's father, on the other hand, consistently uses the correct name and pronouns. Kade's mother describes connecting with trans support groups, and having her worldview reframed by the generosity of trans people who were willing to share their experiences with her. We witness a trans march and get to meet Kade's supportive friends, including two very sweet and open-minded cis boys that stick up for him. We also meet Anna, Kade's girlfriend. Kade's father details his son’s immense struggle with puberty, describing Kade as “virtually suicidal” in response to his first period. This, he goes on to say, “really cemented and confirmed” the reality of his son’s trans identity. Kade's mother goes with him to a doctor's appointment where he receives an injection as part of his puberty blocker treatment (with each shot costing his family $1100), and holds his hand while he gets the shot. When he is older, she does his testosterone injections. It is apparent that Kade is very close with his mother, regardless of how she refers to him. Kade's sister is far less accepting, and is quite self-centred about Kade's transition. She complains that she had already "established" herself in school when Kade became a freshman, and how irritated she became by the idea that she might have to "stick up for" Kade. Such a burden! Adam Theatre, Film 2021 مِصر (Egypt), Scotland, Iraq Adam Kashmiry, an Egyptian-Scottish trans man, plays himself alongside Iraqi-English actress Yasmin Al-Khudhairi. Adam experiences sexual abuse and discrimination in Egypt, has a short-lived relationship with an Egyptian lesbian woman, is made homeless by his father, and seeks asylum in Scotland. Available Summary: The true story of a trans man, Adam Kashmiry, and his remarkable struggle across genders and borders. Based on the acclaimed National Theatre of Scotland play, with Adam himself in the lead role. - National Theatre Scotland . Jack's Summary: This film is absolutely incredible. I highly recommend watching it, provided you are prepared for confronting themes. Those themes include: Bandage binding, which is depicted as being uncomfortable and unsafe, and is not romanticised ( a persistent issue in trans media ). Gang rape, which is not shown visually, but is depicted through audio with explicit language, including references to Adam's genitals. Threats of corrective rape, to "fix" Adam. Discussions of police brutality, including sexual violence. Threatened/considered self harm with a knife, specifically focused on Adam's chest. Discussions of dysphoria-inducing situations and experiences, including menstruation. Sexist language and attitudes. Accusations of internalised sexism and lesbophobia by Adam's girlfriend, who identifies as a lesbian and insists that Adam's male identity is due to self-hatred. Food deprivation. An immigration official aggressively interrogating Adam's gender identity and experiences of rape in Egypt. Needle use. I have an immense amount of respect for Adam, to share his story and have it depicted in such a raw way. I'd heard of this play but hadn't realised it'd been adapted into a film, and happened across it while I was researching another piece of media. I'm bloody glad, because this is an incredibly important piece of trans male media history. And there's a happy ending! The film is accompanied by choir songs, performed by 140 trans and gender-diverse singers from around the world. At the end of the film, Adam stands onstage, looking at a giant display of the singers' webcams, as a visual representation of the global community we're all a part of. I was very touched by this, and by Adam's mother becoming supportive towards the end. Entry last updated: 16 Apr 2026
- Princess Cyd (2017) | Non-Binary, Bisexual Film
The bisexual protagonist of this film falls in love with Katie, a gender non-conforming barista played by American non-binary actor Ro White. Princess Cyd Film 2017 United States of America The bisexual protagonist of this film falls in love with Katie, a gender non-conforming barista played by American non-binary actor Ro White. Trailer. Available Summary: A teenager moves to Chicago for the summer and finds a poignant mentor in her aunt and a sweet love interest in a girl who works in the neighborhood. -Netflix. Jack's Summary: I really, really enjoyed this film. The protagonist is an initially headstrong, arrogant young woman who is beginning to explore her sexuality, and who is healing from trauma. I interpret her aunt as being asexual, although that is not canonically stated. The main love interest of Cyd is a gender non-conforming person named Katie, played by American non-binary actor Ro White. In this interview , the director said that he told White to, "rewind to a year or two before you fully acknowledged your identity as a non-binary person," explaining to the interviewer, "Katie is a girl in the film, but cut to two years later, I imagine they will have found themselves." An encounter where Katie is assumed to be a guy by strangers, and happily does not correct them, leads to a scene where Cyd and her aunt briefly comment on Katie's gender identity, unbothered and supportive in a way which I found wonderfully understated. I would say that Katie is potentially relatable for a wide range of gender-diverse and gender non-conforming people. The most confronting parts of this film involve an offscreen sexual assault (Katie texts Cyd, asking for help to escape the situation), and a discussion of unmanaged mental illness and domestic conflict which escalated into gun violence. Towards the end of the movie, Cyd reveals to Katie that her brother fatally shot her mother and then turned the gun on himself. Cyd also reveals that her parents had considered sending her brother to military school, as a solution for his mental illnesses and mood swings, which is hardly an appropriate response to someone who needs clinical help. This is one reason that I feel mental illness is not demonised by this storyline; it is clear that her brother did not get the help he needed, resulting in horrific consequences for his family and himself. Furthermore, Katie has self-harm scars which do not deter Cyd's affection and attraction. They are simply allowed to exist, without being stigmatised or questioned. There is a happy ending. He shows his post-phalloplasty and post-mastectomy body for the education of Lucian, a younger British trans man, and viewers. He shares his story and answers questions about how phalloplasty operations work. Naked Education (S01E03) Reality TV 2023 England Finlay Games, a British trans man, stars in episode 3 of this body positive series. He shows his post-phalloplasty and post-mastectomy body for the education of Lucian, a younger British trans man, and viewers. He shares his story and answers questions about how phalloplasty operations work. Watch. Available Summaries: Each episode, teenagers are educated about the human anatomy and the importance of body positivity, two people talk about their shared experiences, and the Naked Brigade help someone get over some of their body image issues. -IMdb (overview). Teenagers are taught about female anatomy. Two transgender men share their experiences with each other. The Naked Brigade takes Laura on a naked bike ride to help them with their confidence. -IMdb (episode three). Jack's Summary: This show aims to de-stigmatise and demystify human bodies. Each episode is split into three parts: Teen Talk, The Naked Brigade, and The Naked Exchange. In The Naked Exchange, "two people with similar body journey stories, who are at different stages on their journeys, meet up for a conversation and, if they wish and feel comfortable, share their naked bodies". After hearing that a post-phalloplasty trans man was featured in episode three's The Naked Exchange segment, I immediately rushed to watch it. The man in question is Finlay Games (AKA Finn), a post-transition English man, and he speaks with a late-twenties English trans man named Lucian. Finn listening to Lucian share his experiences. Lucian and Finn discuss their transitions, their differing backgrounds, and their experiences of manhood. Lucian talks about undergoing top surgery only six months prior to the episode, and says he wants to have bottom surgery in the future. Finn discusses coming out at thirty-seven years of age, the difficulty of transitioning, and the happiness that he now enjoys. All questions asked of the trans men, by the interviewer and by each other, were respectful and exactly what I would've wanted. A censored still from the episode. In a non-sexual, friendly context, Finn undresses and shows Lucian his phalloplasty result, prompting Lucian to say, "I'm so jealous, it's painful". Lucian asks questions about Finn's sensation, how the surgical result was achieved, how long the process took, and other particulars. "I can pee, get an erection, have pleasure, have sex," Finn explains, later saying, "I'm happy with it. Best decision I've made... Going through three years of surgery and six surgeries is actually less painful and hellish than gender dysphoria." Towards the end of the episode Lucian remarks, "If this is me 20 years down the line, then I'm a happy guy." He thanks Finn for sharing his body and his story, saying, "I feel like it's definitely given me a better perspective, seeing it in-person and being able to ask questions, so I really, really appreciate you doing that." I wish this kind of representation had been around earlier, and I'm so happy that it's here now. At a time when phalloplasty is still widely misunderstood, it's wonderful that we're able to see full-frontal nudity of a post-transition FTM guy. I'm so grateful to Finn for his bravery, especially considering the transphobia which abounds in his country. I can't comment on the other segments (Teen Talk and The Naked Brigade), as I only watched the phalloplasty/FTM-centric scenes. But, from what I understand, a disabled non-binary person participated in The Naked Parade and was affirmed by the other participants. The show also features cancer survivors, older people, post-pregnancy women, and quadriplegic people. I personally find the concept of the Teen Talk segments uncomfortable, though I rationally understand the logic behind it . Feel free to make up your own mind, on that front! A censored still from the episode. Prepare for anatomically-correct language when Finn and the interviewer are discussing his pre- and post-op anatomy. Also, be aware that Finn discusses disordered eating, alcohol use disorder, and other struggles which occurred due to his gender dysphoria going unmanaged. You can read about Finn's experience filming Naked Education here . He has also published a book about undergoing phalloplasty; more info here . Entry last updated: 8 Feb 2026
- Boy I Am (2006) | Trans Male, Feminist Documentary
Three American trans men are interviewed alongside feminists who oppose female-to-male transitions. Boy I Am Documentary 2006 United States of America Three American trans men are interviewed alongside feminists who oppose female-to-male transitions. Trailer. Available Summary: When trans male visibility exploded in the early 2000s, conversations about trans issues in the queer and feminist communities often ran into resistance from the many women who viewed transitioning as a "trend" or as an anti-feminist act that taps into male privilege. Boy I Am is a feature-length documentary that begins to break down that barrier and promote dialog about trans issues through a look at the experiences of three young trans guys in New York City--Nicco, Norie and Keegan--as they go through major junctures, as well as through the voices of lesbians, activists and theorists who raise and address the questions that many people have but few openly discuss. Boy I Am opens up a dialog between the lesbian, feminist, and transgender communities while also promoting understanding of transgender issues for general audiences. -Sam Feder. - Chucky (2021) | Non-Binary Show
Glen and Glenda, non-binary twins played by American non-binary actor Lachlan Watson, are the reincarnated soul of a murderous doll in this fantasy horror series. Chucky Show 2021 United States of America Glen and Glenda, non-binary twins played by American non-binary actor Lachlan Watson, are the reincarnated soul of a murderous doll in this fantasy horror series. Interview with Lachlan Watson. Compilation of Scenes. Available Summary: After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town's hypocrisies and secrets. -IMDb. Note from Jack: The scene compilation includes a misuse of the term "psychotic". Pretty disappointing that any television show is still perpetuating stigma against that medical condition, regardless of the show's genre. Psychosis is a symptom, not a shorthand for being evil... whether an evil person or an evil doll... Fundamentally, it is a disconnection from reality, characterised by false beliefs, or a person experiencing things which are objectively not real. There are many different causes of psychosis, including dementia, encephalitis, stroke, substance use, and schizophrenia. It is quite common and does not mean someone is a villain. It means that they need support, and stigma can prevent that from happening. Entry last updated: 8 Feb 2026
